Vitamin B-12 has a big role in stabilizing your energy levels. It actually helps give you more energy, rather than making you tired. If you do notice feeling a little fatigued, even though you’re regularly taking a B-12 supplement, it’s likely a sign of something else that is out of the norm in your body. Go see your doctor to get the proper diagnosis and treatment.

B-12’s Role in Energy Production

After your digestive tract does its job of breaking down large food particles, B-12 -- with the help of the other B vitamins -- jumps in to get your metabolism going. The B vitamins work in sync to pull out energy, in the form of calories, from broken down carbohydrates, protein and fat. As a result, you should have the fuel to power you through your day without feeling tired.

Problems Absorbing B-12

Even if you’re taking B-12 on a regular basis, your body might not be able to absorb it, resulting in a deficiency that could be causing your fatigue. Vitamin B-12 in supplements generally absorbs efficiently after binding with a specialized protein called intrinsic factor. B-12 in foods also needs this protein for absorption, but it has to go through a separate digestive step before this can happen. However, if your body doesn’t have enough intrinsic factor, which is more likely to happen in older adults, you might not be able to absorb the vitamin. Or if you have chronic intestinal problems such as Crohn’s disease, celiac disease or irritable bowel syndrome, your intestinal tract may not be absorbing much B-12, causing a deficiency.

One Possibility: Supplement Allergies

Dietary supplements tend to have added ingredients to help keep the pills shelf stable and aid in binding everything together. This is why some formularies contain known allergens, such as wheat. Thus if you’re otherwise healthy but still continue to feel tired after taking a B-12 supplement, it could be a sign of a mild allergic reaction. If a rash, difficulty breathing or swelling coincides with taking your dose of B-12, get to the doctor right away. These are more serious allergic reaction symptoms that could lead to anaphylactic shock.

What stimulant is best for weight loss?

If you have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you may take medicine to help with things like focus, attention, and hyperactivity. But that medication also can have side effects, including weight changes. Merely having ADHD may lead to weight gain. Not being able to control your impulses can lead to junk food cravings and overeating. That can make it easy to put weight on and hard to take it back off. But if your ADHD or the drugs you take to treat it lead to a few extra pounds, you're not stuck with the extra weight. You can do some things to limit -- and reverse -- that kind of weight gain. Can ADHD Medications Cause Weight Loss? Sometimes the medicines most often used to treat ADHD can cause weight loss. Stimulant drugs like methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine/dextroamphetamine (Adderall) make you less hungry and make your body burn calories faster than usual. Some of them are even used to help people lose weight or treat binge eating. Children with ADHD who take stimulant medication often struggle to eat and gain weight, which can be an issue for growth. . Can ADHD Medications Cause Weight Gain? Although the stimulant effect of ADHD medications can curb your appetite and help burn calories, once it wears off, your appetite can come roaring back. And if you overeat when you're not on your medicine, you could gain weight, especially since that's most often in the evening or at night. Some people with ADHD also have depression and take antidepressants. A few of those have been linked to weight gain.
