Kylie Jenner is known for many things,

but something that she's super famous for is her lips.

Do you remember when the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge

took the entire internet by storm,

and fans all over the world were sucking their lips

into glasses and jars to look like her?

Doctors did not approve.

Or when she caused a worldwide shortage

of MAC Cosmetics' Spice lip pencil?

Because that was the color she used,

and everybody wanted to look like Kylie.

Or do you remember when she launched her Lip Kits,

and they sold out in 60 seconds?

This week, I'm taking a deep dive

into the evolution of Kylie's lips.

We'll look at a timeline of her lips

and speak with an expert to learn

everything there is to know about fillers.

From her first kiss to her Lip Kits,

Often imitated, but never duplicated,

here's a timeline of Kylie's famous lips.

Here we have Kylie at the 2007 premiere

of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and here she is in 2008.

She was so cute with all her natural features,

including her lips.

The Kar-Jenner sisters all have amazing genes,

and I've always thought Kylie is so pretty.

Here she is in 2009 at the Teen Choice Awards.

She's 13 years old, and even then,

her makeup is so on-point.

She's wearing that pink lip gloss

that all girls her age would wear.

[gasps]

Sometime throughout these formative years,

Kylie had her first kiss,

[lip smacking]

but sadly, it was not a good experience,

and she was scarred for life.

And that's because some guy said to her,

I'm surprised that you can kiss with lips so thin.

[car crashing]

You little mother-[bleep], shut the [bleep],

[bleeping]

Hashtag rude.

Everyone is already so self-conscious at this age,

so can we please teach our kids to treat other people

with a little bit more respect?

And so begins the journey of Kylie's lips.

[chimes]

Here she is in May 2010, and you can see

that she's clearly overdrawn her lips

to make them look a little fuller.

Kylie admitted to her therapist on Life of Kylie

that she would do this because of that first kiss incident.

That makes me so sad.

you'll notice subtle hints

that Kylie always wanted fuller lips.

Here's Kylie's first voluminous lip selfie,

January 3rd, 2012.

Yes, I scrolled all the way back to the beginning.

My hand is very tired, but you know what?

Someone had to do it.

Another hint that Kylie wanted fuller lips

is this giant poster of lips that hung

in her old bedroom in Kris's house.

on Keeping Up with the Kardashians?

Side note, Kylie has kind of always been

my interior aesthetic,

and I love Kris Jenner's influence here

in her childhood bedroom, but can we take a look

Here we are in June 2013.

Kylie used to cover her lips a lot in her selfies,

and it may have been because she was self-conscious,

but I like to think that she's the one

who invented the entire fingermouthing trend.

She's just that cool.

There was a brief moment that summer

where her lips looked a little plumper,

but by October of that year they were back

to their original shape and size,

and it was clear she was over-lining again.

She looks so pretty in all these selfies, like, I can't.

In spring 2014, everything changed.

With just a few CCs of hyaluronic acid,

Kylie went from being Kim's cute little sister

And let's be real here, this is the selfie

that broke the internet.

I know it sits at just over 700,000 likes or something,

but this is the selfie that made Kylie, Kylie.

And they just kept coming.

MAC Cosmetics couldn't keep Brave, or Foe,

or Velvet Teddy, or the Spice lip pencils

stocked on their shelves because of Kylie.

When they write about Kylie in history books,

these selfies will be in them.

It's like she invented the nude lip selfie here.

And here is Kylie 2.0's first red carpet appearance

at the Billboard Music Awards 2014.

It wasn't long before we had the hashtag:

KylieJennerLipChallenge. [chimes]

Fans all over the country were sucking their lips

into shot glasses to try and get lips like Kylie.

Do not try that at home.

Super dangerous, and not worth it.

[gasps]

So Kylie wouldn't admit to her fillers

for a long time, but why should she?

It's her body, and she can do whatever she wants with it.

But then, in May 2015, on an episode

of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she admitted.

[gasping]

I truly believe that when Kylie admitted to her lip fillers,

it helped de-stigmatize the taboo

that surrounds cosmetic procedures.

So can we please stop judging other people

for what they choose to do with their bodies?

[gasps]

Now, in what is probably the most boss move

of all time, ever, Kylie took complete control

over the narrative of her lips,

and on November 30th, 2015, she launched her first Lip Kits.

And they sold out in 60 seconds.

[cash register ringing]

Make it rain.

that you think to yourself, um, okay,

well maybe I'll make my own lipstick.

And from there it turns into a billion-dollar company?

[dinging]

Honestly, I think the biggest thank-you

should go to all you lip haters out there,

because without you, we wouldn't have Kylie Cosmetics.

[lip smacking]

When someone commented, she looks like the old Kylie here,

I don't know why, Kylie commented back,

I got rid of all my filler.

[popping]

Kylie, you look beautiful with or without lip fillers.

But side note, can you please teach me

how you take these low-angle self-timer images?

Because you look flawless,

and when I do it, not really cute.

One month later, a fan tweeted to Kylie,

when's the vlog coming, and Kylie tweeted back:

Um, Kylie, I am waiting for this.

Where is this self-made doc about your lip filler journey?

I cannot wait for you to put this out.

I've always been curious about lip fillers.

I just have so many questions.

I think I just need to ask an expert.

How do you think the popularity of Kylie Jenner

has affected the world of cosmetic surgery?

Well, I think just the Kardashians in general,

and Kylie Jenner also, number one,

it has created a new generation of people

who feel comfortable doing these procedures.

There was a 300% increase in the number of people

who got lip fillers within the first six months

after Kylie Jenner came out and talked about it.

Filler injection in general, for the lips alone,

has gone up dramatically every year

for the past three years.

And how would you say the effect of social media

has played in the industry?

Somebody just did a study of this,

and if the Kardashian and Jenners posted something,

close to half a billion people

are going to see the next morning.

They show what they do in their life,

and how they achieve their looks,

and how they achieve their appearance, helps any industry.

Kylie Jenner single-handedly has had a huge impact.

Everything she does causes, you know, such a reaction.

But I love this one, because I love

that she was transparent about it.

She did struggle with it for a while,

'cause she didn't know, when she was younger,

she didn't know if it was going to be something

that people are going to have a backlash,

whether she was going to get a lot of haters,

and people are going to talk bad about her.

But she thought about it with her family,

and discussed it with all the family members,

and decided that this is something

that she wants to share with people.

And she didn't have to.

For a young girl to come out and say,

it's fairly simple, you can have it too.

It was very honest, she's very real,

she's very truthful about what she does.

And that's something that I really love about her,

is because she admits to it,

and it's nothing to be ashamed of,

and I like that she changed the narrative,

and she took control over it herself,

and she made her own business out of it. [laughs]

It's a billion-dollar company

within a short period of time, within a few years.

It's unheard of.

Obviously the power that...

They can probably write books

about how she's grown her business so rapidly.

But again, she's done it by being honest and open,

and a lot of people respond to it very nicely.

Now my next question is if you would be able

to measure my face and give me a little assessment.

It will be my honor, yes.

[upbeat electronic music]

The first thing I'd like to do

is to see if your face is symmetrical,

so I'm going to ask you to close your eyes.

So a face has to be symmetrical

from the right to the left side,

also your upper and lower part of the face

have to be proportional to each other.

So that is 1/5, 1/5, one of the face going horizontally,

and then 1/3 angles of the face going up and down.

We also use a computer-generated program

to show a person how their lips are going to look like.

Lifted the eyebrows to make it more balanced,

jawline a little bit more chiseled,

and I made your lips a little bit fuller.

I would love to get it all done today,

but I can't while I'm working.

Okay, so you can come any other time you want,

without the cameras.

Definitely will.

I loved meeting Dr. Ourian.

I'm Iranian, and so is Dr. Ourian.

It's so inspiring to see someone with my heritage

and my background become so successful in their field.

And I can see why Kylie goes to him.

And speaking of Kylie,

I loved learning so much about her journey.

The fact that he said that there was a 300% increase

in lip filler requests once she admitted to hers is insane.

Kylie really struggled at the beginning

with speaking about her lip fillers,

but once she opened up about it,

other people came out and started speaking

about their insecurities.

We all have insecurities, and Kylie took her insecurity,

she turned it into this amazing opportunity.

She made a business out of it with her Lip Kits,

and now she's a billionaire.

I think it's important to remember

that you don't need to physically change anything

about yourself to feel confident and beautiful.

That all comes from within.

But this is just another option,
