The Koreans may have taught us to take our skincare seriously, but it's their holistic approach to everything they do that makes it more special—whether it's how they pat on an essence gently, or patiently massage the moisturiser in to boost circulation, or how they take a bath. Yes, trust Koreans to even bathe differently occasionally, in order to reap maximum benefits out of an everyday ritual. Popularly known as a ‘half-bath', it requires you to soak only half your body—the lower part—in water. Intrigued? Scroll on to know why this peculiar ritual deserves a spot in your regular beauty regimen.

What are the benefits of a half-bath?

The blood vessels in our body are responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to the skin and other cells of the body, to help them function better. Immersing your lower body in a hot bath, without letting your upper body get wet, helps boost this blood flow due to the resultant temperature difference in the top and bottom halves of your body. The increase in blood circulation helps release muscular tension, aids detoxification and also calms the nervous system. All of this collectively culminates into giving your skin the healthy boost it needs to glow from within.

How to draw your own half-bath?

You're going to have to find a bathtub for this one first, obviously. Fill it up halfway with really hot water, enough to keep you feeling warm without burning your skin or making you uncomfortable. You can also add essential oils or dead sea salt in your bath to enhance your experience and intensify the detoxification. Now get inside, ensuring that only your lower body—up till your belly button—is completely soaked, while keeping the rest of your body absolutely dry. Stay in there for at least 45 minutes without letting your hands sink in. You can get a nice book before you get in the tub too—not only will it help you relax, it'll also keep your hands busy for this step. You'll notice your body start to warm up, and its effects will be seen as you start sweating on your upper body. After your half-bath session, rinse your already-relaxed body with some cool water to finish off.
