Runner-up steam iron and best budget steam iron Tower T22008 CeraGlide Cordless amazon.co.uk £25.23 Buy now Score: 92/100 Swap between corded and cordless ironing with our multi-tasking runner-up. It banished creases in no time, while its water tank lasted for almost 19 minutes. It heated quickly to the correct temperature, but it doesn’t last long in cordless mode, making it a better pick for quick refreshes than a whole load of washing. Best steam iron for energy efficiency and best cordless iron Tefal FV6551 Freemove Air Steam Iron currys.co.uk £84.99 £54.99 (35% off) Buy now Score: 89/100 This is a purely cordless iron, and it used the least electricity of all the irons we tested (just 2p to iron two shirts). For every 30 seconds of use, you’ll need to recharge it another 30, and the cap of the otherwise well-designed tank popped off from time to time. Its temperature accuracy and steam settings were effective. Best steam for ease of use and best iron for stubborn creases Philips GC4537/86 Azur Steam Iron johnlewis.com £74.99 Buy now Score: 89/100 Make ironing as effortless as it can be, all three dot settings on this iron reached the correct temperature quickly, and its steam output was consistent. It doesn’t have a built-in automatic shut-off and the tank needed refilling after about 11 minutes. Outstanding on linen and cotton, even stubborn creases vanished easily. Best steam iron for design Tefal FV9845 Ultimate Pure amazon.co.uk £159.99 £125.99 (21% off) Buy now Score: 89/100 With well-positioned buttons, effective steam functions and a reliable performance, there’s a lot to like about this steam iron. The spray was effective when removing creases, but we found the button easy to trigger, while the temperature dial was stiff. The tank also needed refilling after nine minutes. It made our clothes look pristine though, both with and without steam.
