Kim Kardashian has said she successfully lost 16lbs in the three weeks running up to Monday night’s Met Gala in order to fit into Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress. The reality TV star said she was devastated when she realised she didn't fit into the dress during a first try-on, after thinking it would actually be too large on her figure. She said she was determined to lose weight so she could showcase the dress for photos on the red carpet on Monday, and compared it to ‘preparing for a role.’ On the night, Kim told Vogue’s Livestream host, La La Anthony, that she was determined to drop the pounds when she saw the dress didn't fit propely. “I had this idea to put it on and to try it on, and they came with armed guards and gloves,” she said. “I tried it on and it didn’t fit me, and so I looked at them and said give me like three weeks, and I had to lose 16lbs, down today, to be able to fit this. “It was such a challenge, it was like a role, I was determined to fit it.” At that point, La La told added: “When you put your mind to something there's no ... you were like eating tomatoes.” Kim went on to tell Vogue that was ruthlessly strict with her diet in order to slim down and admitted she hadn't eaten “carbs and sugar in three weeks.” Speaking about Marilyn's dress and the Hollywood star herself, she said: “I always thought she was extremely curvy. “I imagined I might be smaller in some places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller. “So when it didn’t fit me I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all.’ Revealing how she managed to drop such a substantial amount of weight in a short space of time, Kim explained: “I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein.

However, the news of her weight loss was not well received online, and some have called the reality star out for glamorising eating disorders. One person wrote:”'Kim Kardashian looked beautiful at the Met Gala, but she has promoted unrealistic body standards for YEARS (diet teas, waist trainers, $$$ procedures, etc) and her talking about losing 16 Ibs in 3 weeks to fit into Marilyn's dress (which no one should get to wear) is appalling.” Another said: “Kim said she's been avoiding carbs and as soon as the night is over she's ordering pizza. “Eek, restricting yourself for dramatic weight loss to basically binge afterwards isn't healthy or worth it. We are all enough as we are.”
