A popular topic of interest lately, especially in women’s magazines like COSMOPOLITAN, the FUPA is a condition that can be quite embarrassing for individuals experiencing the symptoms. Though “FUPA” has developed a number of slang and indelicate meanings, it actually stands for “fatty upper pubic area,” and describes an excess of fatty tissue or loose skin located on or directly above the mons pubis—the region that develops hair during puberty. While often inconspicuous in regular clothing, a FUPA can make wearing swimwear or fitness clothing, as well as engaging in intimate activities, a stressful, unpleasant experience for many. A number of factors can contribute to the development of excess fat in the upper pubic area. In many cases, the condition is simply a result of genetic predisposition.
