A thigh gap has been coveted as the Holy Grail of physical attributes that many seek to attain. With so many unhealthy diets and workouts that tout that they can give you a thigh gap overnight, we’re here to give you real answers that will work. Discover the origins and how to achieve it in a healthy and positive way.

What is a thigh gap?

It is the gap or space between the thighs when a person is standing with their legs together and is usually attributed to women.

How did the story of gap between legs come about?

The term gained popularity thanks to social media and celebrities touting the gap as The “It” Thing. In retaliation to the thigh gap trend came the self-explanatory body positivity movement called Mermaid Thighs.

Why doesn’t everyone have one?

Some bodies have the thigh gap and others don’t. Everyone’s body is unique, and it is all down to a mix of genetic predispositions including:

How to get a thigh gap the healthy way?

1. CoolSculpting for thigh gap

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, fat freezing treatment used to reduce those pinchable stubborn pockets of unwanted fat. This FDA-approved treatment can be used on a range of body areas including the outer thigh and inner thigh. Through precisely controlled cooling, an area’s fat cells beneath the skin are targeted. These cells freeze, shrink and die over the next few weeks, and your body naturally disposes of them.

2. Exercise – Thigh Gap Workout

First and foremost, there is no one exercise you can do that will give you a thigh gap. When we workout, weight loss isn’t targeted to one area – you lose weight from your entire body. What we can work on is, toning and strengthening the muscles on the inside of our legs. These are called your hip abductors. Working on these muscles will result in more toned and tighter inner thigh muscles, which can give a prominent gap.

SUMO SQUATS

Stand with your feet placed hip-width apart.

Turn your feet so they point out slightly.

Connect your hands in front of your chest.

Push your hips back slightly and lower yourself slowly into the sumo squat position

Keep your back straight and make sure your upper body doesn’t drop

BRIDGE WITH BALL SQUEEZE

Lay flat on your mat with your feet on the floor and your knees bent.

Place the small ball between your knees

Slowly push your feet into the floor, listing your pelvis into a bridge position

SIDE LUNGE

Stand tall with your feet hip-width distance apart.

Taking your right leg, step out to the right and bend your right knee.

Keep both your feet flat while you do the lunge.

Return to your original standing position by pushing off with your right leg.

Repeat this with the left leg.
