How to Eat More Food Without Gaining Weight

By Genevieve Cunningham

Most people really love to eat. Food just tastes so good, and our love for food definitely shows … right around the waist! But what if there was a way to eat more food without the negative side effects? Would you do it? Could such a thing even be possible? If you love to eat, but you’re less enthused about the weight gain, take a look at these ways to eat more without packing on the pounds.

Choose Wisely

It’s entirely possible to eat more food without eating more calories. But in order to do this, you’re going to have to learn a lot about nutrition. And you’re also going to have to make changes to your menu. If you eat healthier foods, you’ll likely be able to eat more of it, and yet your caloric intake may actually drop. Used to eating chips for a snack? Switch to eating carrots and you’ll be able to enjoy a much larger serving. Choose wisely when it comes to what goes into your mouth, and you’ll be on your way to better health with a bigger menu.

Eat Often

This won’t actually have you eating more food, but it might feel like it! Instead of opting for three big meals per day, spread out your food into five or six tiny ones. You’ll be eating more often, even if the actual amount of food hasn’t changed. And if you combine this option with making better food choices, you’ll feel like you’re eating more, but you may actually find yourself losing weight over time. The only real way to eat more calories without gaining weight is by also increasing the number of calories you burn. If you really want to eat more, and you don’t want to alter your food choices, you’re simply going to have to burn more calories every day. You may be able to do this with another exercise routine, a more intense workout, or through changing your general lifestyle. However you choose to do it, burning more calories is essential if you’re going to eat more without gaining.

It’s possible to eat more without the extra weight. It might take some creativity or a little change to your lifestyle, but it’s definitely possible! Use these tips to get your diet in check and to enjoy your menu day in and day out. Eat more, lose weight … what’s not to love about that?

What does a teaspoon of honey before bed do?

Honey helps your brain release melatonin, the hormone that your body uses to restore itself during sleep. This happens through a series of transformations in your brain: honey's sugars spike your insulin levels, releasing tryptophan, which becomes serotonin, which becomes melatonin.

While most folks keep honey in the pantry, you may want to grab a bottle for your nightstand, too. Raw and unfiltered honey can hydrate your skin, soothe your throat, help heal wounds and sweeten everything it touches, but it can also help you get a sweet night’s sleep. Raw honey, eaten just before bed, helps you snooze in two general ways: It provides easy-to-access fuel for your brain throughout the night. Specifically, it restocks your liver’s glycogen. Low levels of glycogen tell your brain that it’s time to eat. If you haven’t eaten in several hours when you go to sleep, this “hunger” can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night and sleep less soundly. Honey helps your brain release melatonin, the hormone that your body uses to restore itself during sleep. This happens through a series of transformations in your brain: honey’s sugars spike your insulin levels, releasing tryptophan, which becomes serotonin, which becomes melatonin. Our very own Dr. Ron Fessenden has written extensively about how honey can help with sleep, and now the word is out. Even the lifehackers over at Bulletproof and Lifehack.org are promoting honey because of how well it promotes sleep. “Having a little extra sugar before bed can help your brain function better at night…As long as you don’t combine it with protein…you can get more deep sleep when you take a small amount of raw honey.”

So, let’s get serious then. If you were going to do everything you possibly could to get the best night’s sleep ever, what would it take? Start with this checklist:
