Zinc, the essential element to ensure healthy hair and prevent alopecia

Zinc is an essential mineral for our health. In this article, we will focus on the positive effect it has on our hair and how it helps us prevent alopecia. In the human body, it is mainly found in the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bones and muscle, but also in the eyes, skin and hair. It plays many roles in our body and is involved in around 300 enzymatic reactions, which means that a shortage of this element in our body can lead to various deficiencies. As with other nutrients, it may be present in very low levels (nutritional deficiencies), relatively low levels (sub-optimal levels), appropriate levels and toxic levels. When zinc levels are low, hair loss, delayed growth, the appearance of grey hairs and various types of immune deficiencies may be observed.

Zinc helps us prevent alopecia

To understand the link between healthy hair and zinc, we must first understand the connection between zinc deficiency and hair loss. Some experts claim that a shortage of zinc is actually the main cause of damage to the structure of the protein that makes up the hair follicle. This weakening of the follicle can, in turn, cause damage to the hair and hair loss (alopecia). It has also been demonstrated that zinc plays a crucial role in DNA and RNA production, it being necessary for the division of the hair follicle cells and for healthier hair growth. At the same time, zinc helps keep hormone levels balanced, which is one of the essential reasons why it is considered so effective for preventing hair loss and grey hairs from appearing. Some studies have demonstrated that grey and ageing hair can recover its original colour when nourished by diets rich in zinc and supplements formulated with this element. As an additional benefit, zinc also helps eliminate the dandruff present on the scalp. In a study carried out in 2013 in Kandong University in Seoul (South Korea), the researchers assessed the role of zinc in each of the four types of hair loss (alopecia areata, female- and male-pattern androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium). In all patients with hair loss, the average zinc level was significantly lower compared to the control group. The analysis of each group revealed that all of the groups that suffered from hair loss had a statistically lower concentration of zinc, especially the group that suffered from alopecia areata. The data led to the hypothesis that alterations in the metabolism of zinc play a key role in hair loss. Similarly, a study published in the Annals of Dermatology in 2009 evaluated the therapeutic effects of oral zinc supplementation for twelve weeks in alopecia areata patients who had low serum zinc levels. An oral supplement of zinc gluconate was administered to patients with alopecia areata without any other treatment.

After therapy, the zinc levels increased significantly and positive therapeutic effects were observed in 9 out of 15 patients (around 67%). The researchers concluded that zinc supplements should be administered to patients with alopecia areata who have a low zinc level, and it could even become adjuvant therapy for patients for whom the traditional therapeutic methods have been unsuccessful, which is why this mineral is one of the most important nutrients for hair growth. For all these reasons, it is vitally important to maintain a balanced level of zinc in our body to keep the hair healthy. HAIR REGENERATOR SERUM FORTE, HAIR NUTRITION SUPPLEMENT, REGENERATIVE SHAMPOO, PRO-REGENERATIVE ACCELERATOR, ANTI-GREY HAIR andREDENHAIR EYELASH REGENERATION SERUMare products formulated with zinc or its derivatives, as they are intended in one way or another to make the hair healthy, together with the other ingredients in their formulas, playing a different role depending on each product. We do not appreciate the importance of mineral balance in our body until we lose it and suffer the tough consequences for our health and our appearance. Avoid zinc deficiency by following the REDENHAIR ritual and you will achieve optimal health for your hair!
