It gets glucose from the food you eat, most commonly as carbohydrates found in foods such as milk, bread, potatoes, spaghetti, and beans. After you ingest carbohydrates, your body breaks them down and turns them into glucose. The glucose enters your bloodstream, causing your blood sugar levels to rise.
