Drinking apple cider vinegar for weight loss seems far-fetched. Does it work? Answer From Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Apple cider vinegar isn't likely to be effective for weight loss.

Proponents of apple cider vinegar claim that it has numerous health benefits and that drinking a small amount or taking a supplement before meals helps curb appetite and burn fat. However, there's little scientific support for these claims. Studies of apple cider vinegar for weight loss have not consistently shown significant and sustainable weight loss across diverse groups of people. Although occasional use of apple cider vinegar is safe for most people, it does carry some risks. For example: Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic. It may irritate your throat if you drink it often or in large amounts. Apple cider vinegar may interact with certain supplements or drugs, including diuretics and insulin. This may contribute to low potassium levels. Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. Be skeptical of any approach that claims you can lose weight without decreasing calories or increasing physical activity. There is a problem with information submitted for this request. PSL = WL / 10

Where PSL is the number of pant sizes lost

WL is the total amount of weight lost (lbs)

How much weight do i need to lose to drop pants size?

On average, every 10 lbs of weight a person loses will equate to 1 pant size smaller. So, for example, if someone lost 25 pounds, they would likely drop 2 and a half sizes in pants. This is not an exact formula, and the number of pants sizes lost will also depend on where a person stores their fat. If a person stores more fat on their hips, they would likely lose more pants sizes than someone that stores fat more on their thighs and arms.

How to calculate weight loss pant sizes?

Example:

The following example shows how to calculate the equivalent number of pants sizes lost given the number of pounds someone has lost. First, determine the total number of pounds of weight the person has lost. In this example, the person has lost a total of 20 lbs.

PSL = WL / 10

PSL = 20 / 10

PSL = 2

Finally, subtract the number of pants sizes lost from the previous pant size to determine the new pant size. In this case, the person was originally a 34, so now they are a size 32 waist.
