Definition

Double Chin A double chin is a loss of definition of the jawbone or soft tissue under the chin. In overweight people, commonly, the layer of subcutaneous fat around the neck sags down and creates a wrinkle, creating the appearance of a second chin. This fat pad is occasionally surgically removed and the corresponding muscles under the jaw shortened (hyoid lift). Another cause can be a bony deficiency, commonly seen in people of average weight. When the jaw bones (mandible and, by extension, the maxilla) don't project forward enough, the chin, in turn, will not project forward sufficient to give the impression of a defined jawline and chin.

Main Digest

Here is a fact that you should take note of. What do you look at first when you meet somebody? You look at their face first right? For example you meet up with old friends, colleagues, your neighbor or new friends, most of the time you will focus your attention on their faces first. Losing facial fat is a lot easier said than done. Unfortunately for some, this is the very first place they gain weight, and it's usually the last place it leaves them when they lose weight, while many others have an easier time when they try to lose face fat. Probably one of the best things you can do actually to lose the facial fat is to lose weight overall. To lose face fat, you must begin losing weight. This means losing excess water retention and also losing body fat. Usually, when a person loses weight, it is noticeable that their face also gets sharper and leaner. Focus on eating smarter and a less calorific diet, and once you start to lose overall body weight, you will see you begin to see you are losing facial fat.

Get Rid of a Double Chin

Many people who want to lose face fat have a double chin. If you have a double chin, there is an exercise you can do. Curl your bottom lip over your bottom teeth. Open your mouth wide, and work your lower jaw up and down. You can do this for a few minutes every day, and it can eventually see some difference in your chin. Chewing gum regularly can also reduce your chin - eventually. Another method that sounds strange but has been said to work for firming up a double chin: Using your hand's back (top), slap/tap the bottom of your chin rapidly yet firmly. Do this often, whenever you think of it.

Sagging Jowls

Loose, sagging, or jiggly jowls result from descending cheeks that naturally occur with aging. When you lose volume in the face, especially the cheeks and jawline area, along with volume around the mouth, the jowls become more prominent and look saggy. A downside to losing weight is the excess of sagging skin often left over. A common area for loose skin is on the neck and jaw, which results in sagging jowls. Unfortunately, issues with sagging skin can't always be resolved through facial muscle strengthening exercises; for many people, surgical reconstruction is the most effective way to reduce excess skin on the neck and jowl area. A pre-jowl implant, fillers, or fat injections could help with the loose jowls. Another option is a small surgical tuck-up, mini-lift, jaw-lift, neck-lift, and micro-lift to firm up the jowls.

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Try to eat a balanced diet that incorporates all of the food groups with balance. Eat whole grains, fruits and vegetables the most, and meat and dairy a little less. Eat at least three servings of fruits and three servings of vegetables daily. This will not only fill you with fewer calories and help you stay away from junk food, fruits, and vegetables but also contains water that can help you stay hydrated. Plus, they are filled with fiber, which gives many health benefits. Choose your fruits carefully; control the number of bananas, grapes, and pineapples because they are high in fructose. Go for apples, oranges, all sorts of berries, and grapefruit because they are low GI carbs and they packed full of antioxidants.

Reduce Salt Intake

Puffy cheeks and face fat can affect water retention. A high salt intake can encourage your body to store water, as salt is an active ingredient that causes bloating or water retention. Avoid salty foods and eat healthy ones instead. If you need to add salt to your recipe, do it with a salt shaker or sprinkle it with your hand instead of a spoon. This way, you can control the amount of salt in your food. Getting a sun tan also makes you look leaner and helps eliminate lots of water retention.

Drink Water - Lots of It

You have to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Drink at least nine 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Drink more than that if you are active and always exposed to the sun. Our body has a natural protective system; when you do not drink enough water, the body will naturally think you are stranded in a desert and lack enough water. As a result, it will store as much water as possible to keep you living, which is when you will get bloated. In addition, if you drink enough water, the body will flush out all the unnecessary water because it knows that the system has enough water. Stick to plain water. Sodas and sugared drinks do not help because they contain sugar and lead to bloating and other health issues.

Regular exercise leads to a leaner body and, of course, a leaner face. We tend to lose fat over our whole bodies when we lose weight. If you are overweight, sensible dieting and a regular cardiovascular workout will burn fat from all areas, including your face. For some people, the difference will be dramatic; for others, less so, but all should enjoy some improvement in facial appearance. So burn those calories and do aerobic exercises such as jogging or brisk walking. Exhibit an active lifestyle for a slimmer face and body.

Cosmetic Face Surgery

Many people go through dangerous cosmetic surgery just to get higher cheekbones, sharper jaw line and the dreaded double chin. If you are considering having any costly or invasive procedure to reduce facial fat by cosmetic surgery (or for any other purpose), you need to proceed with caution. Speak to people who've had the same procedure. Research it through the Internet. Get your doctor's opinion, advice, and perhaps a referral. Learn about costs, side effects, recovery time, and possible complications. Most importantly, gain a realistic understanding of what the procedure can and cannot do for your appearance. That way, you'll avoid disappointment.

To Sum Up

Eat well, drop the sodium and saturated fatty meals. drink plenty of water. Diet and exercise need to be a long-term thing, and the lower you get your body fat percentage (BMI), the slimmer your face will become.
