3 Signs You're About to Drop Some Weight

By Genevieve Cunningham

Any weight loss journey is difficult. Whether you’re trying to lose 10 pounds or 50 pounds, the dedication and sacrifice that it requires is a difficult venture. The key, whether we like to admit it or not, is actually consistency. If we just don’t give up, weight loss will happen. But when the going gets tough and it feels like we’ll never lose, we often give up and quit trying. If you feel as though you’re never going to lose, take a look at these three signs that a weight loss drop is in your near future so that you can push through and see success. Some people call this the whoosh effect. The idea is that just before a significant weight loss occurs, you actually look a little pudgy and soft. Why? Because you’ve started to break down your fat cells and now they’re filling up with water. Soon, these cells will flush themselves out and shrink. This is what’s known as the whoosh, and it’s the moment that you actually feel smaller and more fit. If you’ve been working really hard at your weight loss goals, and you notice a little more dimpling of the skin than usual, don’t get discouraged. Keep going because a dramatic drop may be in your near future.

You’ve Hit a Mental Plateau

Losing weight is tough. It takes serious dedication and perseverance. Sometimes we work and work and work … and then we hit what feels like a wall. Getting up and working out feels almost impossible and that piece of chocolate cake is looking oh so good. If you’ve hit this mental plateau, do your best to work through it. Don’t give up. If you can keep going through this most difficult moment, chances are really good that a few pounds will be dropped when you make it to the other side.

You’re Suddenly Stronger

If you’ve been working out, your muscles should be gaining strength. Many times, we actually gain muscle strength first. This is why we sometimes feel bigger after the initial exercise journey begins. Our muscles are growing, but we haven’t burned the fat yet. If you can feel your strength making gains, push through. Soon, you’ll notice the fat beginning to fall away and show some massive muscle definition underneath. The good news about weight loss is that it’s possible. The bad news is that it’s hard. But if we know what to expect and what to look out for, it becomes just a little bit easier. Pay attention to your body and notice if any of these happenings are occurring. If so, keep going so that you can finally lose the weight and get closer to your ultimate fitness goals.
